Michigan Climate

Due to the surrounding Great Lakes, Michigan has a temperate climate. The moisture that the lakes contribute to the air slows the onset of winter and summer. Average temperature during January ranges from 13 to 25 degrees fahrenheit. Average temperature during July ranges from 63 to 73 degrees fahrenheit.

Average annual rainfall and snowfall total about 31 inches, but in the upper penninsula, total rainfall and snowfall can total 180 inches per year.

The somewhat humid climate benefits farmers, and the moisture in the air also benefits the snow tourism economy by offering a chance of extra "lake effect" snows.
